THE BASIS FOR A GOOD RESULT

About the service

Skim coating prepares walls and ceilings for the final finish. It corrects the irregularities suited to this stage and creates a surface appropriate for the selected paint and lighting. Work starts with an assessment of the substrate, as each room may need a different approach.

Preparation includes cleaning and removal of unstable areas, as well as appropriate priming according to the system. If necessary, coarse putty is used for leveling, followed by fine processing. The number of layers and specific materials depend on the condition and the desired result.

Problem areas and transitions between materials may require reinforcement where applicable. The causes of the cracks must be accounted for; reinforcement is not a universal guarantee against their recurrence. In the case of plasterboard, joints, corners and attachment points are processed according to the chosen system.

After the required drying time, the surface is sanded and dust is removed. Details and readiness for painting are checked. Skim coating is suitable for new construction and for renovation or redecoration where existing walls and ceilings need preparation.

Materials and preparation

We check the old coating, bumps, joints and problem areas. The base is cleaned and prepared according to the selected material.

We specify the necessary leveling, finishing treatment and the type of future paint. Lighting and wall condition affect the range.

Why careful preparation matters

Skim coating does not resolve the cause of active damp or movement in the substrate. These issues need to be assessed before finishing, rather than covered with more material. The correct sequence of coats, dust removal and inspection under suitable lighting help reveal unevenness before painting. Between operations, the material must be ready for the next stage in accordance with its technical instructions and the room conditions.

FROM PREPARATION TO COMPLETION

How the work proceeds

  1. We inspect the base, irregularities, joints and existing coatings.

  2. We prepare and prime according to the system; we specify the necessary reinforcement.

  3. We apply the leveling and fine layers according to the need of the surface.

  4. We sand, dust and check readiness for paint.

BEFORE WE BEGIN

Frequently asked questions

Are coarse and fine putty always necessary?

No. The range depends on the substrate and the smoothness required. A well-prepared surface may require only fine finishing, and larger irregularities require different preparation.

Is sanding part of the paint prep?

Yes, when the system in use requires it. After sanding, it is important that the surface is dust-free and prepared for the next coating.

Can it be machine painted after the putty?

Yes, on a suitable ready base. Machine or manual application is chosen according to the areas, furnishings and details in the room.
