PRACTICAL GUIDE

Working temperatures and material drying

Air, substrate and material temperature are considered together with humidity and layer thickness.

There is no single temperature for every compound

The cited Bulgarian data sheets specify a room temperature of at least +5 °C for MP 75. Uniflott Finish requires +10 to +30 °C. The Super Finish and Fill & Finish Light data sheets dated 09/2015 specify +13 to +35 °C for the air and surface.

Follow the exact documentation for the packaging used. A storage instruction is not an automatic laying instruction.

Surface-dry does not mean ready for every next stage

Readiness for the next coating is assessed according to the system requirements. Thicker areas, low temperatures and high humidity can extend drying time.

For example for Intol E.L.F. the German sheet states about 4–6 hours for surface drying at +20 °C and 65% humidity, but a minimum of 12 hours between coats. These values are not a universal schedule for all paints.

Plan the sequence of work

Allow time for primer, basic leveling, jointing, finishing putty and paint. When talking about deadlines, specify the condition of the premises and whether the conditions can be maintained.

Controlling the substrate and drying is more useful than promising the same number of days for each project.

The technical examples apply to specific products and conditions. During installation, the complete instructions and the specified system details take precedence.
